Terms of Service - ikigAI

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using ikigAI at ikig-ai.app (the "Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, you may not use the Service.

These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and ikigAI ("we," "us," or "our"). Please read them carefully before using the Service.

2. Description of Service

ikigAI is an AI-powered self-discovery platform that helps users explore their ikigai (reason for being) through structured assessments grounded in Dr. Mieko Kamiya's research and Japanese philosophy. The Service includes:

Two self-reflection assessments (Purpose Flower and Seven Gates)
AI-generated personalized analysis reports ("Ikigai Scrolls")
A personal dashboard for tracking your progress and viewing your scrolls

The assessments are free to complete. Generating an Ikigai Scroll requires a purchased credit.

3. Account Registration & Eligibility

To use the Service, you must create an account using a valid email address or Google account. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account.

You must be at least 13 years of age to use ikigAI. By creating an account, you represent that you meet this age requirement. If you are under 18, you represent that you have your parent or guardian's consent to use the Service.

You agree to provide accurate and complete information during registration and profile setup, and to keep your information current.

4. Credits & Payments

4.1 Credit System

ikigAI uses a credit-based system. Each Ikigai Scroll generation requires one credit. Credits are purchased individually at a price of $15 USD per credit. Credits do not expire and remain in your account until used.

4.2 Payment Processing

All payments are processed securely through Stripe. By making a purchase, you agree to Stripe's terms of service. We do not store your payment card information on our servers.

4.3 Refund Policy

Due to the nature of digital content and AI-generated outputs, all credit purchases are final and non-refundable once a scroll has been generated. If you experience a technical issue that prevents successful scroll generation, please contact us at hello@ikig-ai.app and we will work to resolve the issue or provide a replacement credit.

Unused credits may be eligible for a refund on a case-by-case basis. Please contact us to discuss.

5. User Content & Data

5.1 Ownership

You retain ownership of all content you submit to ikigAI, including your profile information, assessment responses, and any feedback you provide. Your Ikigai Scrolls are generated for your personal use and you are free to use them as you wish.

5.2 License to Process

By using the Service, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to process your content solely for the purpose of providing the Service — specifically, to store your data, send it to our AI provider for scroll generation, and display it back to you within the application. We will not use your content for any other purpose without your explicit consent.

5.3 Data Portability & Deletion

You may export all of your data at any time from your account settings. You may also permanently delete your account and all associated data at any time. For full details on how we handle your data, please see our Privacy Policy.

6. AI-Generated Content

Ikigai Scrolls are generated by artificial intelligence based on your assessment responses and profile data. While we strive to provide thoughtful and meaningful analysis grounded in established ikigai scholarship, you acknowledge that:

AI-generated content is not a substitute for professional counseling, therapy, career advice, or medical guidance
The insights provided are reflective tools for self-exploration, not prescriptive recommendations
AI outputs may contain inaccuracies, generalizations, or interpretations that do not fully represent your situation
Each scroll generation may produce different results even from the same assessment data

7. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

Use the Service for any unlawful purpose
Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the Service or its systems
Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the Service
Create multiple accounts to abuse the credit system or promotional offers
Scrape, copy, or reproduce any part of the Service without written permission
Submit deliberately false or misleading information in assessments to manipulate AI outputs
Resell, redistribute, or commercially exploit generated Ikigai Scrolls as a service

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.

8. Intellectual Property

The ikigAI name, logo, website design, assessment frameworks, prompt engineering, AI configurations, and all associated intellectual property are owned by ikigAI and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works based on our Service without our prior written consent.

The ikigai research and scholarship referenced in our Service belongs to their respective authors and is used in accordance with fair use principles for educational and analytical purposes.

9. Disclaimers & Limitation of Liability

9.1 "As Is" Service

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure.

9.2 Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, ikigAI shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, whether incurred directly or indirectly, or any loss of data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses, resulting from:

Your use of or inability to use the Service
Any AI-generated content or insights provided through the Service
Unauthorized access to or alteration of your data
Any third-party conduct on the Service

Our total liability to you for any claims arising from or related to the Service shall not exceed the total amount you have paid to us in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim.

10. Termination

You may terminate your account at any time by deleting it from your account settings. Upon deletion, all your data will be permanently removed from our systems.

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without notice, for conduct that we believe violates these Terms or is harmful to other users, us, or third parties, or for any other reason at our sole discretion.

Upon termination, unused credits are forfeited unless a refund is agreed upon. Sections of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination (including Intellectual Property, Disclaimers, and Limitation of Liability) will continue to apply.

11. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the United States, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising from these Terms or the Service shall be resolved through good-faith negotiation. If negotiation fails, disputes shall be submitted to binding arbitration in accordance with applicable arbitration rules.

12. Changes to These Terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the Service after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms. If you do not agree to the new Terms, you should discontinue use of the Service.
